I have just joined this forum.
My immediate problem is: A beautiful DeArmond x-155 that I’ve acquired recently has a Gold-Tone pickup with damaged gold foil. (Just one of the pu’s, and only one half of it).
They are not the usual solid faux-gold foils as used in many other gold foil pickups. They are a floppy, plastic sheet like materials - to my surprise!
I wonder how I can get hold of a few centimetres of these… —? Any help would be most welcome!

Welcome to LTG!

These pickups? (see photo below)

I believe the gold material creating the fine square grid pattern may be
a very thin mirror-gold polyester film.

Not sure how I'd go about attempting to repair any missing or damaged
material - tricky to do even if you had the embossed material, but if you
did, could perhaps be laser cut or plotter cut. Alternatively,
an experienced digital graphics technician with a capable plotter might be able to set up and execute
an embossing pattern followed by a cutting pass on smooth material.

Not sure what the background material is though that the foil needs to adhere to - that
should be determined before anything else. If the background material behind
the foil is wax, for instance - or grid-embossed wax? - I'm not sure how you'd get the
foil to adhere to it or contour to the recesses of the embossed grid - it might have to be pressed on,
perhaps with some careful heat applied.

Either way, does not look like an easy situation to fix if the foil is damaged or missing.

If that helps in searching for help, the official name was "Gold Tone Humbucking Pickup":

You’re probably better off just buying a replacement PU. They’re not super expensive.
