I think it’s smart , if you’re shopping for something like a T-100 , to also include SFI,II&III, Gibson ES-125/225, gretsch clippers, epiphone sorrentos, Martin F-50/55 etc.
They will all get you in the same ballpark
I recall reading somewhere that the early SFII/III’s were either the same as or closely based on the T100. How closely related were they initially; and when/how did they diverge?

Good question I'm also interested to know! I think the SF never had Franz pickups, so thats already a difference

They're all on the same basic platform, with iterative changes (the Starfires get front and back binding, mahogany bodies, etc.). The Starfires generally had DeArmonds or (from ~'63) humbuckers, while T-100s went from Franz to Todd to Mickey Mouse pickups -- but there are enough hybrid/transitional/special/oddball variations that I would be reluctant to say "never."

And then there's Shakey, whose guitar can't decide what it is!

FWIW, my M-65 has an original Starfire TRC and a Starfire-sized harp tailpiece.
