Neck depth and Profile has a lot to do with it as well. A couple of years ago I had a Breedlove American Made Historical series Spruce and Rosewood Dread with the Herringbone binding. It was Breedlove's version of a Prewar D28. The guitar had a 1 3/4" nut width but the neck depth was extremely shallow with a profile that was like a flat "C" shape. It was very hard for me to play comfortably after my Left shoulder surgeries. I wound up selling it and the generalization that I couldn't play a 1 3/4" neck stayed with me so I didn't even bother looking at Guitars with a 1 3/4" nut.

Then 3 years later enter the Orpheum Jumbo. I decided to take a chance on the Orpheum Jumbo after passing it over many times due to the 1 3/4" nut stigma I had in my brain. To my pleasant surprise the Deep thickness of the neck and the "Soft V" profile of the Orpheum jumbo fit my hand perfectly and I had no problems playing it for an extended period of time even with my Surgically repaired Left arm. It has actually become one of my Favorite guitars and probably the acoustic I play the most. Glad I took a chance on it. Basically it taught me that the nut width is no where near as important as the neck depth and profile. Just because 2 guitars are listed to have a 1 3/4" nut doesn't mean they will feel or play the same.

The converse proof which I've mentioned before, being demonstrated between my D25 and my D40, both with 1-11/16 nuts and identical spacing.
D25 has a "modern flat oval"(shallow) and D40 has a definite "D", almost a full-blown "C".
It took me a couple of years to realize that's why the '40 always felt like it had a higher-than-spec action, even though it measured out spot-on.

Absolutely... the necks on my DV-72 and 73, both 1-3/4" nuts, feel VERY different.

OTOH, I would describe the necks on both my D-50 (1-11/16") and DV-73 (1-3/4") as "chunky," both having a somewhat deeper profile. They also feel very different, due to the difference in width.

And it isn't just my hand that notices the "chunky" necks of my D-50 and DV-73... I have to adjust (loosen) my Shubb capos to allow for the deeper profiles of the necks when I use them on either of these two guitars after any of my others.

Well I was also under the impression that the DV-72 specs were saying 1.11/16 for the nut, although I remember Dave mentioning his was 1.3/4 to my astonishment. I know Guild is not known for its consistency in building specs, but that the same model be fitted with different nut sizes brings yet another "wtf?" floating around my tiny brain.

I didn't need to go check mine, since if indeed it WERE 1.3/4, not only would I know it, but I would probably not have been able to keep it for that very reason.

That said, and for the sake of this thread documentation, I took the digital caliper and measured 1.685, confirming the 1.11/16 nut size.
