Newbie here - I notice no one is considering glue. I built a solid body a number of years back, basically a Les Paul Special sort of construction. It was a bit of a disappointment sustain-wise.
After about two years it was much improved. All I can attribute that to is the glue (yellow titebond iirc) finally completely drying.
