I wish I had a picture...it was my 13th birthday, my folks came home late from being up in Boston for a night out.. They called me from sleeping in my bed to come downstairs. I walk into the room and they are both standing, one to each side, of a classical guitar. they were both smiling. I started playing it the next day. Just notes really, like E, F and G, not knowing what they were, but I really liked how they sounded. This would have been 1980.

My parents bought me a Harmony 6 string in 1959. I kept it through High School and sold it in 1964.
I started playing 12-string in 1961 with a great Swedish Levin-made Goya that I kept until 1964 when I traded it in on my first Guild 12, an F-212. Never looked back. Been playing Guilds ever since.

Yup. When I was in high school, lots of my friends played. A friend asked me if I wanted him to show him how. I figured, everyone else does, so I should learn in self-defense. Plus, I'd just seen B.B. King on one of those afternoon TV variety shows that used to be popular (Merv? Mike Douglas? The Steve Paul Scene? Dunno . . . .), and I thought it looked like fun.

Turned out it was.

PS — No B.B. content here but some nice nostalgia nonetheless:
