Hello!
Help me get information about this guitar.
It's a "fake". Maybe even criminally counterfeit.

One great big error on the label, it says "1987", but Fender didn't own Guild until November of '95, and I don't believe their corporate headquarters were in scottsdale at the time either, but no so sure abut that one.

Other incorrect details are the fretboard blocks, never had one-color blocks on a dreadnought neck, headstock shape is incorrect.
Bracing isn't Guild profile of glue-in technique, "Model" should be "DV-4", not "Dreadnoughts" and S/N should have an "AD04" (or "AD40") prefix followed buy a couple of zeros and the actual unit number.
Truss rod cover and tuners aren't correct.
The neckheel is too "round", and I'll bet the heel is stacked, (2-piece heel), which Guild never did in the US.

And Guild would've finished the whole guitar in black, not just the top. It looks hideous, Guild never would have let that out of the factory.
Been a long time since we've seen one that ambitious and yet so egregiously wrong.

As others have said, that is sadly not a real Guild.

It's really odd that the V-inserts are non-contrasting. Instead of abalone, they just cut the V from the same white pearloid and stuck it in the pearloid block. From a distance it looks like a plain pearloid block inlay so why even bother with the V insert?

There are a couple of other issues that occurred to me: The DV-4 model didn't exist in 1987. Also the neck construction itself is incorrect, the center section on the back of the headstock is too "narrow" Guild's necks were one piece from heel to end of headstock, with "wings" glued to the sides of the headstock to give final shape. If you have it in hand, check to see if the headstock is actually a separate piece, it's very common to glue the headstock to the neck at an angle using a joinery technique. But not on Guilds. ;)

If you see something else you're interested in, please feel free to check here again. We sincerely care about the brand. Kudos to you for doing your due diligence.

This is a bizarre specimen. Of course as many stated not made by Guild and it doesn’t really look like any Italian or European make I seen before so I suspect probably manufactured in China. I know EKO made Ovation copies in Italy for a while but those had the EKO branding as I don’t suspect they’d care to get into legal trouble.

Although someone went to a lot of trouble to create this guitar, it is not a real Guild.
And somebody was extremely creative creating that fake label!
For instance at 7975 Hayden Rd. in Scottsdale is "Guild Mortgage" ! Whoever created that label didn't know the difference between "Mortgage" and "Guitar"...

Jeez, at least they could have black-shoe-polished the fretboard and bridge. The lightness of the bridge on that black top is hideous!

:) Hey, I'll take a rosewood bridge any day! It'll actually darken up quite a bit if it just gets oiled a little.

You guys are awesome. I figured it was fake but there are so many points of error that would have gone over my head.
One other point, I have never seen such poor writing on a guild label. It almost looks like the writing was done after the label was attached.

I'm sitting here wondering how the guitar sounds. I'd love to hear about the sound from the original poster.
