Saw this DV-6-HG today at GC. It's been played; the fret board on the first five frets is worn bad. Other than that the body and neck seemed in good shape. It sounded rough...needs new strings. I noticed the label said Cedar. I assume it had a cedar top or body? The top looked spruce. Body looked mahogany. Here's some pics.

Rare, and worth the $649. You can get the divots filled (with rosewood dust and glue) and frets taken care of.

So you're encouraging I ask a friend for a loan....even though I still owe on another.

Why did I walk in there? :?

Hey Ca if they'll give you the loan why not. I am sure you can sell some other stuff off and pay them back, right :D

With my DV6 HG Cedar top, it seems to my (Dumbo) ears that there is a little less sustain, which I like for blues.

Any other opinions out there about what cedar tops sound like?

I have a cedar over mahogany Bourgeois JOM (OM size, dreadnought depth) that's an absolutely magnificent guitar, with perhaps the richest and most balanced sound of all of my herd. Here's a picture of it with dapmdave at the helm from the last LMG.

It's the Swiss Army Knife of acoustic guitars. Truly excels at everything, to my ears at least.

Yes, SG. They put it on a lot of the DV series and on Gruhn's D60, D62, D64, and D66 series. Maybe the GF series too.
I Love it!!
Yes, I have the Herringbone on my '93 DV-52, and I was aware of some of those upper models, But never seen it on anything 'below' a Dv-52. Not to mention Cedar as well. Wow!
I'm impressed.
Good point about the Blues too DH.

My Seagull S6 has a cedar top with cherry back and sides and the sound is mostly mellow, for lack of a better word.
Of course, the 1 3/4" nut is nice, too, so it's a good little fingerpicking guitar.

So the iron mines are still going strong?

Pretty much full steam ahead for the last couple of years in this area. :)

I thought all of the irons these days came from Asia.

Nope, the good stuff comes from around here and a bit further north in Canada, eh!
