I believe Oracle founder Larry Ellison's exact words were:
"Privacy? Get over it. You don't HAVE any privacy".
Arrogance of the technocrats or man of the people telling it like it is?
Lemme just say he routinely ignores curfew limitations intended to reduce noice pollution when operating his private jet out of San Jose International Airport.

Aren't teenaged girls ALWAYS pregnant before their parents find out?

I agree with Ellison and don't know how to put that jinni back in the bottle.

As for pregnant teenagers, the amazing thing (or horrifying, depending) is that the pregnancy was deduced from browsing habits and purchases so, in essence, pregnant teenagers are not individuals but members of a group that can be characterized in terms of buying and browsing.

EVERYONE is placed into groups, or "markets". That what Big Data is supposed to do. And as proven by the valuation of companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc., which in reality do nothing but collect personal data, there is lots and lots of money to be made by treating people this way.

BTW, Neal, good luck with your dog's health...

, Right, I just had to play up the "logic" folly in that one. In fact, taking it one step further:
I guess if my 15-year old was shopping on-line for Pampers, pacifiers, cute little snugly outfits, and watching episodes of "Teen Mom" on Youtube, I'd raise an eyebrow too. On the other hand, if they've got their own series on MTV there must be something there...oh waitaminnit, studies now indicate a decline in the birthrate of unwed teens could be linked to the show.
Looks like they shot themselves in their sponsor's foot with that one.... :biggrin-new:
