The Guild is a pressed laminate electric archtop.....the spruce on the top layer is nice to look at but deceiving.
In Guild's beginning, early electric archtops like this were made to be good sounding and playing guitars when jazz and the pop music of the day were the market to be targeted.
I've also read some accounts and history of the Epiphone Frequensator and believe the designers had good intentions, but for me a simple trapeze like the one on the Guild is perfectly fine.
Someone might have keener ears or sensitivity than me and think otherwise, I don't doubt!
