I saw Van Halen with Sammy Hagar at MSG in the '80s and during Eruption someone jumped on stage and ran up to Eddie. I assume he yelled something to Eddie because as the security guys came running up to wreck the guy Eddie put a hand up to stop them. He then waved the guy over to him and *let him play the taping part of the solo* while Eddie just stood there with the guitar hanging around his neck.

When he was done Eddie kind of nodded as if to say, "Nice" and the guy jumped up and down with his fists in the air while security corralled him off the stage (bouncing the entire time) as the whole place went wild.
I don't own any VH albums, nor did I every buy one. I couldn't stand Roth and just can't stand the lyrics. But I always like Eddie, he seemed like just the nicest dude and his virtuosity is unquestionable. I think Les Paul was a fan even etc...He just makes guitar playing look like a freakin blast!

Wow, the Eddie Van Halen wiki is incredible! I had no idea he was born in the Netherlands.

Oh and this: Eddie recorded the solo on the Michael Jackson song "Beat It" when The Who guitarist Pete Townshend became unavailable and recommended him.

Just trying to wonder what the Pete Townshend solo would have sounded like on Beat It ROFL

the band Toto with Steve Lukather also wrote/played on a bunch of Micheal Jackson songs. if u listen to songs like "Human Nature," it totally sounds like a Toto song

Shreddy Van Halen...the tops.

Gone too soon.

I saw them in the early '80's with Roth. Incredible.

When their first album came out I was working in a record store in a mall. We used to get complaints from the "menswear" store across the from us for playing the album too loud. We used to tell security "There's no other way to play it!".
