I don't think I've seen a spread of that one before

This is a quote from another thread, so here's a few pictures of Guild 48159 (1970). Note the matched inside-outside Brazilian Rosewood arch back.

Hey, Brad, thanks for posting that! What an absolutely spectacular guitar! Has that had a refinish? It looks sooooooooo good!

Original finish on the body for sure. The neck is darker that most I've seen. I don't know what they were doing with neck finishes in 1970, but this guitar had a reset before I got it and it looks to me like steam got into the finish during the reset. Neck or at least the heel was probably sprayed darker at that time.

How would the laminate be made? Unless that’s a carved BRZ RW back. Now that’s some major bucks.

I am pretty sure these are three layers schrunched to shape in a giant press.

The good old Wabash press as used in Westerly already, later in Ensenada, Tacoma, New Hartford and still in use in Oxnard today for the arched backs of the F-412 (or "F-512 Maple" as called by CMG). That heated 30 ton Wabash press was in Westerly in service since 1985, so obviously a different press was used before.

Beautiful!!! Thank you for the pics! And the sound ... magnificent?

Personal preference - The sound of this particular 12-string is third in line. I've never heard any guitar I like as well as AE-176. Nothing close; no contest. Second in line is the AS series F-312 (selected from a group of four) that I played until maintenance was required. That may change (up or down) after the work on it is finished.

The maple 412s have all been a little too "something" for me. Perhaps too "crisp"; I don't know. Chris Jorgensen had an amazing original-size F-212 in the mid-'60s that would be my #4.

There remain three F-412 Specials I've heard of but haven't played - the Texas one, The LA (Ace Music) one, and the one the Kiss guy bought up there in Santa Rosa. Heck, it's been over 50 years,. For all I know all three are the same guitar.
