To be fair, Gibson uses J for slope shoulder dreadnoughts like the J35 and J45, J for 16" jumbos like the J185 and J (and also SJ) for 17" jumbos like the J100 and J200.

But back to the Guild "F," I'd lean toward the original intent being "flattop" because it's similar to the Epiphone practice of using "FT" for flattops regardless of shape and size. Once they started adding dreadnoughts, then "F" then implies a "folk" shape. You know, except in the case of the M20.

With all due respect to Cordoba for keeping Guild alive, I'm not onboard with their "standardization" of naming conventions. A 17" jumbo F40, is unforgivable. Particularly since the original F40 body style is fairly iconic.

My wife and I were talking about Mississippi John Hurt this evening, and I mentioned that he played a Guild F-30. She knows that the "D" in my Guild D-40 and my Martin D-28 stands for "dreadnought", and asked me what the "F" in F-30 stands for. I didn't know. I'm sure somebody here will.
Interesting responses to this and it makes me wonder what the G stands for in the Guild model number system. I'm sure someone here would know that? Should I start another thread? Don't want to be rude.
