Hi Gilli
No experience with them. Have learned from this board that they are reputable but pricey.

Hello Benee Wafers,

Just my congratulations for your Guild. I think you have right. I should wait and search a bit... Beside this time I can save every month a bit more money for my dream.
I have not played a twelve string Guild yet - there is no one, I could test anywhere...
I have played a Takamine G535SSC and a Lakewood D32-12 Custom. It was not that sound which I was looking for. But I think it must go the same way, I bought my JF-30.

Dietmar

Edit: You wrote that you tune down a full step to D and use a capo in the second place. What capo do you use? When I tested the Takamine G535 I also used my G7th capo (do you know this capo?) to test this. But I have seen and heard that the thin strings beside E A D G would not be pressed correctly down - so they rattle/buzz (don't know the right word for this - in German it is called 'schnarren') or better say they are only muted.

Great little story Magic, and really nice to hear from somebody out of the "mainstream".

Yes, I did notice that guitars seem extremely expensive in Germany. (I went to the very impressive site that you recommended.)

And I suppose you get slugged with huge import duties if you bought ex America ?

Your post was not difficult to read at all, although, not having English as your first language, I imagine it took some time to compose.
Thank you for doing so.

Hello Coastie,

it was not very difficult to write this text in english. I think I was 25 to 30 minutes busy with writing. It only takes a little time for the short stops, I need to find the correct word for something. When I am to lazy to look at my dictionary (just now I had to look for the word 'dictonary' because I can't remember some words which I don't need very often - and there are many of them...) I had to rewrite the word or can not exactly say what I want. Thats the main problem.
I don't know the exact hight of the import tax for guitars or any goods from America - I have to ask for it.
But it is a good feeling to write in english and mainly read the english postings here. So I hope that my english would be get better in a short time. I just don't understand what you mean with "mainstream". I looked at the dictionary but I can't bring it exactly in connection. Do you mean the Guild scene? That we have not? And the main scene is in America?
What about the scene in America. Guilds are build in China now - the scene would be confine (just also a word I hat to look for 'confige'- hope it is right) to the american builds, isn't it?
So - now it is enough for me, today. I take off the computer now and play guitar for at least half an hour before I drink a very cold beer. My little daughter (5 years) is in bed since 30 minutes and I have time to practise some songs now.

Best regards and have a nice evening alltogether!

One thing to note before getting too worked up about that lifting bridge - Guild was sort of known for not gluing to close to the edge of the bridge, which often gives the appearance of a lifting bridge when there is in fact no issue at all.

That may not be the case here, but it's worth thinking about anyway.

Mr. Magic Takamine
Yes I have seen the G7 advertised but really know nothing about it.
I use a Shubb capo and have no problems.

Mainstream

Magic.

What I meant by that, was that it's nice to hear from someone other than the usual people, and someone other than an American. There are quite a few members here from places other than America, and I for one would love to hear from them. Perhaps English is a problem for some of them.

Mainstream is defined as : "The prevailing trend of opinion, fashion etc."

I can assure you there are lunatics here who are definitely not "mainstream", but, since I tend a little towards lunacy myself, I WOULD consider us "mainstream".

And now, I've probably made it more confusing for you.

Hello at all and good morning!

@coastie:
To that song "Gimme das ding, ....." - I know which song you mean - I can hear it in my ears but can't remember the title at the moment.
I think I could understand now what you mean with Mainstream!

Back to another thing - the G7th capo. Does anybody else use this capo? The first, I had (and still have) was a "Kyser" but the spring of this capo is very strong. The G7th has no spring. You can use it also with one hand and you define the pressure yourself with the hand. You press it till it is just enough - not more.

Dietmar

Edit: I found that curious song from "The Pipkins" "Gimme Dat Ding":

Here's the G7 capo. Interesting looking little gizmo. I'm not positive but I may have seen one somewhere.

Dietmar, you say it works well?

It's also interesting to me I learned about this British or maybe Italian product from a man in Germany because another fella in New Zeraland remembered the gentleman from Germany was looking for a 12 string.

Thanks for the tip on the TAB service. I only looked at the John Prine, Arlo Guthrie & Gordon Lightfoot menus but it seems a much nicer site than I have used previously. It's easier to navigate so I saved it to my favorites. .

Magic.

It has been my experience that many Ebay sellers will in fact ship to other parts of the world.
I simply ask the seller would he be prepared to ship to N.Z. In most cases I have had a positive response.
It wouldn't surprise me though, if the German Government is a bit heavy-handed with import duty !

@Jeff:

Yes, it is a nice site! Have you still tested the transpose-option on the right side? You can tune up or down in half steps or change the instrument. It is very helpful for some songs or difficult chords...
The capo works very well! No trouble with stay in tune, quick change with one hand and nothing disturbes playing - not even the B7 chord!
