Hi, got my eye on a 1981 F30 NT. It has an arch back. Looks in good nick. What sort of price would you think appropriate? Is £1200 about right, d'you think? Was this a good era for Guild - I know that the 60s F30s are particularly sought after but they're few and far between.

An arched bank F30? That’s a great find. That will have sone good volume and punch. I don’t know what 1200 pounds is to dollars. $1200 be ok. Especially these days.

Looks like the price in US$ would be about $1,440 at the current exchange rate.

Given the generally higher prices for Guilds in Britain & Europe, I think that price is realistic.

You could always try negotiating a bit . . . and remember to post more photos if you buy it!

Looks outstanding, you'd have to be a madman not to buy it, especially private party no tax. Imagine, playing 12 hundred pound notes? They don't sound like do much and if anything like our US dollars losing value by the day, but the guitar hold it's value. Especially now that these have gone down in price as low as they will ever go, depreciation is over, appreciation is beginning.

Cool guitar! Can you check it in person?

Conditon counts for a lot when it comes to price. Does it nned work? Has it had work done to it?

Keep us informed!

The seller actually has it for sale at £1,750, which is around $2,144. But I think that's too high. Having said that, you're right about Guilds in the UK and Europe. Here's a stunner going for nearly £2,740 $3,300 in Germany. Love the video that goes with it, can't get enough of the F30 'sound'. https://reverb.com/uk/item/63706105...ntage-guitar-martin-000-size-body-check-video

What time period(s) did Guild make an arch back F30? I don’t recall seeing one before, but then again my memory ain’t what it used to be.

I agree, I never knew they did an arched back F30. F20, F40, F50, sure all day long, but the 30?

The F-30 is shown in the 1980 catalog as an arch back. I have the catalog at home, but we’re on the road right now, so can’t copy to post a pick. Seems like there are very few around!

I've had an itch for an F-30 from that era since I got a '77 F-112 which is based on the F-30 body. I would make an offer and jump on it!

If a guitar has an arched back does that mean it's laminate?

Depends. You can get an arched back by bending in which case a laminate was used. You can get an arched back by carving a solid slab in which case a laminate was not used.

Functionally the tonal qualities of an arched back instrument have more to do with the geometry of the back than the construction material or technique.

this model basically morphed into the GF-25. those are also hard to find (and have a different headstock)
