I was wowed at our last Let's Meet Guild event when the D-TAR multi-source pickup took the stage. I think it was in a D-50 or a D-55; not sure. There was no comparison with the other guitars. D-TAR multi-source was a factory option starting some time in 2011, I think. But there are certainly other blended systems that are terrific as well, I just haven't heard them yet.
The D-TARs run with a higher voltage than others, which seems to help. At least that was my perception.
I'd much rather choose for myself.
I tend to agree, Br1ck, but that's why the best thing to do is avoid any serious, irreversible changes to the guitar's body when you install one. It's sad to see those dials sticking through the soundboard from some of the 1970s electrifieds. And, don't get me started on the Fishman barn door. The only thing positive I want to say about the barn door is that it can become a poor-man's sound port.
Actually, seriously, I get it. My Ibanez has one of those things and it's nice to easily control the pickup from the bass side. But, OY!
