Whew, I got all my new equipment in and figured most everything out, but this also means I have new questions haha:

I'm using my new 2x12 cab with the fender jazzmaster ultralight head and I think it sounds pretty good. The thing is when I turn the gain up on the distorted channel, I get real bad feedback, even when I'm real far away from the amp and muting the strings. I'm using an S-100 (with carved acorns :D) I got on ebay a couple weeks ago, so would it have something to do with that maybe? It's got 70s era gibson pickups in it.

Also, I looked online about guitar intonation and I think I need to do that on the S-100 (maybe it'll fix the feedback?). Should I attempt this myself or have a guitar tech do it? I've never had anything like that done on my S-70D, but I have a good feel for that guitar and it plays great, so should I bother messing with that?

Thanks!

Hi BC; not sure but I don't think it's the pickups, more below.

Always good to do as much DIY as you can, I don't think you can mess it up to where someone who knows what they're doing can't straighten it out; don't think it will help the feedback.
We have any number of pros and semi-pros here who know alot more than me about your feedback problem so I'm gonna punt to one of them. Good luck w/ your gear and music! cj

BC, does it feed back with both pups? leave the switch in the middle position and try turning down the volumes. It could be that one or both pickups are microphonic and need to be potted(soaked in wax to solidify the loose windings) or replaced.

Intonation isn't a big deal at all. Tune your guitar as normal, then hold down the string at the 12th fret. Is the resulting note on the money or is it flat or sharp? Take an itty bitty screwdriver and adjust the screw on the saddle. If it's sharp, adjust the saddle toward the butt of the guitar. If it's flat, adjust the saddle toward the neck.

It's simpler that it sounds, and being able to set your guitar up to your liking just makes the whole experience so much more satisfying.

I'm gonna make a new topic in Solid/Chambered about the S-100 pickups (and my S-70D's), cause now that I know it's a problem with my guitar and not my amp, the questions I have are no longer related to this topic haha.

Thanks so much for everyone's help! I now have an awesome sounding amp and know a little more about how they work :D
