I came across this guitar and someone who wants to trade with me I have yet to see the guitar in person just in pictures. What would be the good and bad things about this guitar. What would be the going rate since I have only seen one other one for sale the one on gbase. I have seen a couple of DC-1 go for 500 or less but I know this is a little more guitar.

DCE1's are basically D4's with a cutaway and electronics. DCE5's are a bit higher end and I think were rosewood. Maybe more like $600-$800, but I really haven't paid much attention to them. What do you have to trade?

Looks like Elderly sold one for $900.

(oh yeah you enjoying this nice cold spell I am above Bristol Q, and freezing as we speak)

Hmm...don't know anything about those G&L's.

All I can tell you is my DCE1 was nice - balanced tone, nice and warm, arched mahogany back, thinner neck than my D35, played great. Never really used the electronics, but it had the Fishman Matrix (I believe) UST with the controls mounted on the bass side of the body. I would guess the DCE5 would be nicer, but that's a tough call without giving it a test run.

If the guitar is in mint it will be a fair trade or I might be losing a bit since G&L's resale value is pretty bad but the guitar is a bit unique it might hold a bit better than some

on the weather you have to love these mountains cold spells that happen every so often,

Ah, I remember seeing that one and of course thought to myself, "self, you ain't too far from Bristol." But then I looked at my D35 and thought, "hmm....Do I really need another acoustic? And if I went and bought that I bet a nice sunburst D-55 would show up somewhere and I'd regret not saving my money." ;)

From the pics it looks really nice!

Specs from Beesley:
Electro acoustic dread with Venetian cutaway introduced in '93.
Rosewood back/sides, spruce top. Top and back bound. Mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, dot inlays. MSRP $1,399 in 1994.
Here's a pic...
Pretty good reviews from Harmony Central...

Tough call. I myself am not a big fan of Strat-style guitars. Not that I don't like them, but I'd rather...well, have a look below. ;)

I guess we're paying the price for that mild rainy summer we had!

I was thinking it might be a cut-a-way D-50
You know how companies will redo guitars and just put inlays and what not and make it a different model

Well, it is rosewood, but the back is arched. So not quite the same.

15? Wouldn't put a dent in the collection then! ;)

Hey, if you're not far maybe you should go give it a test drive. Might be a decent bluegrass guitar.

My buddy bought one from a forum member here, it's a beautiful guitar. Rosewood sides & back, arched back, cutaway, DTAR electronics I think, very nice appointments, sounds really nice acoustically too :D

I had one for a while - fine guitar, good woods, well built, clear and articulate - piezo pickup was just like all other piezo pickups, though. But a fine acoustic guitar, comparable to (say) a D-50, but lighter built, arched, and generally at better prices.

I own a DCE-5 (internally labeled DC5E). It is a different breed of Guild because it is the only Guild that I have seen with an arched Rosewood back (laminated). This gives it a nice booming sound (like a D25 arched back would). It is bommier than a D50 and brighter than my DV52. What it lacks in warmth, it makes up for in punch; this could work well with bluegrass. I had considered selling it for $900 at one time, but I'm still on the fence. It has the Fishman matrix which is OK, but if I were to 'gig it out, I would have that changed.
I don't know about others but my DCE5- has the thinnest neck of all my Guilds. You should check it out. I'm pretty sure that if you play it you will have to own it. It gets the most love from all of my freinds who come over to play, it's got that Mojo..

Bobby.

the dce series are all laminated sides and back....
-1 is mahogany , -5 is rosewood, -3 is maple.

typically heavy guitars ( all that glue ) , played ok, sound was subjective.
Nobody in the factory liked them that much, though they got a little more respect than the dreaded a25 / a50's.
