got to thinking about this and couldn't find the answer online. Nitrocellulose lacquer finish or polyurethane finish?

I'd bet it's Poly. All my reissues seem to be Poly. Even when Fender sells "nitro" guitars, they're Nitro over Poly.

My R9 is Nitro, and it has a very different feel than the BB.

But I certainly would love to be proven wrong.

same here, because I would be sending it to RS Guitar works for an aging, but if it is poly nothing they can/will do with it.

If it's that '97 in your siggie, it could be nitro since it's a Westerly, although Hideglue indicated recently in the "nitrous vs poly" thread that they DID install some poly shooting equipment in Westerly but didn't follow through on its use. Suggest sending him a pm to get an idea of when this occurred.
I would ask why you want to age it anyway, but hey, it's your guitar... :(
And as I keep mentioning recently, you can test a chip of finish in acetone which will dissolve NCL nut not poly.
I plan to take it from under the TRC in the case of my Corona D40.

It IS, in fact, the goldtop from my sig. Pics below. If i find out this thing is Nitro then it may be getting sent to RS guitar works on the 31st! without doing the acetone test is there any other way to conclude as to what the finish is?

Oh, no, I said Guild tooled-up for UV "Poly", but never followed through.
They most definitely used polyurethane as finish on some solidbody & semi-hollow models.

Alcohol will dissolve it too, and is a friendlier substance.. :)
I think we would agree though, that a solvent test for NCL is the ONLY way to be certain? As opposed to "99% sure"...
oh btw Hideglue, thanks for the clarification!

And unless my memory has completely failed me...

Mojo, the BB is most certainly polyurethane.

That's the right way to do it! Though IMO, Poly just doesn't age as nicely as nitro.

There was a time when we all wished our old guitars looked new.

on a poly finished guitar yes, poly is damn near bulletproof.

nitro finishes will look like that but it'll take a long time/lot of playing

i just love the look of relics, both naturally aged and tastefully/realistically aged on purpose.

And you have every right to feel that way.
Even though I'm violently opposed to treating a guitar the way Charlie Sheen treats himself, it's your opinion and I'm stickin' to it!

I didn't think of it til now, but why DON'T you just lend it to Charlie Sheen for a year?
Better yet, I bet Keith Richards could show that puppy a thing or two. I mean, look how beautifully he's aged

Why not save up your coin and buy a vintage Guild?
