They are in fact gaining a cult following due to the V-8 option they had in the "Grabber" (meaning a V-8 can be fitted into any of 'em), and being a
subcompact rear-wheel drive platform (Nowadays just as big as some current "full size" offerings), something extremely rare these days in new cars (as opposed to trucks).
Actually, like the Mustang, based on the 1960 Falcon platform.
Back in the day of V8 Camaros/Firebirds/Mustangs/Chargers they just didn't get no street creds.

Heck these days I'd even love to see what could be done to perk up their inline-6, an inherently torquey configuration that stood BMW and Jaguar in good stead for decades.

Gas Monkey Garage) did just that with the Maverick's stablemate Mercury Comet a couple of seasons back:
