Freeze Warnings remind me that it is hat season again. It is time to pull out the beanies and hats.

I hated having to start wearing hats when my hair went. Partly this is just because I never liked them, and partly it's because I have a Big Giant Head and it's hard to find hats that fit. Even an XL hat often sits comically atop my head like a beanie. If I find a ball cap that fits, I wear it until it's tattered, because 95% of them don't, even on the largest adjustment.

As you can see in the photo at the left of me in a black hat playing a red Guild T-250, I had a ponytail. But in a hotel bathroom that had mirrors behind you, I saw how bald I was. (I basically had a wreath with a ponytail). I thought: OK, I give up. I'm just going to shave my head.

It still took me about 3 months to actually do it, but I shaved it all off and left the goatee. No regrets. But you do notice a few things: 1) You can no longer hold a pencil behind your ear. 2) Rain runs right down your forehead and into your eyes. And 3) You do need a hat or a beanie on cooler days.

So, I just use an electric and shave face and head all at one time.

They are out there. You have to go to a real hat shop. Sized hats are usually better than XL, XXL et al. They are harder to find, like EEE shoes vs. wide shoes. I personally like hats and have a bunch. They are just as important in the summer when one’s dome shaped solar collector is soaking up all those rays.

Hair on heads looks weird ;[]
Indeed.
Especially just after Hendrix hit London.

Jimi himself started experiencing follicular challenges which his hairdresser attributed to the caustic chemicals used in his perms. HIs hair actually started falling out so he stopped perming, That's why his hair looks so funny in '68-'69, with the white streaks in damaged areas.

Yeah. I've bought a couple of hats from Meyer the Hatter in New Orleans. And I have a wool driving cap from the Irish Shop that fits. But those are nice hats. Casual ball caps are still hard to find. I have one that I got at Target with an embroidered hula girl on it, and two from Lands' End that happen to fit (lucky, because I bought them on clearance for $2 each to get free shipping on an order). But the hat Guild sent me in my loot pack when the D-55 was replaced does not fit, just like most other cool ball caps that I cannot wear.

At least I don't have it as bad as my late brother did. He had an even Bigger Gianter Head, and when he joined the Shriners, he had to have his fez custom made. I tried it on, and it fell down over my ears. It was like a felt-covered wastebasket.

This was probably why our mother hated us, if you think about it. :D

No. At least not as far as The Who goes. They were (had) to follow the mod trends coming out of Carnaby St. Roger has often wrote how he hated having to use Dippity-Do to straighten his hair during this period because a mod with curly hair (his natural hair) was unthinkable.

Hendrix was doing the same thing (read above post on when he stopped), so they weren’t following him, he, like most everyone else, was a slave to mod fashions, which could change weekly.

Right, he "styled", but note how glued down it was in early '66 ("Dippity-Do") compared to late '66, no more Dippity Do
