iBird Explorer Pro for $.99 ($29.00 off) for a limited time. It looks like a very robust app (and voluminous at 560+mb), and is a lot like carrying around an Audubon guide without carrying the book. I'm not quite as into birds as some of the folks here, but have often wanted to have a reference handy when I see an unusual one. Can't beat the deal for a buck! 8)
My 2 cents:
I've had people on some of my field trips that are so equipped, but I encourage them to turn them off and learn the old-fashioned way.
I also encourage them to leave their field guides in the car and hone their field observation skills.
iBird is handy enough but it's like a
crutch and it takes away from an important part of the learning process, IMHO.
Just imagine the birds you might miss while you're thumbing through your field guide or surfing your iBird. :wink:
