Hi / I’m new to the forum. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post. Im in the market for a 12 string to use at gigs. A friend offered me this Handcrafted in China sunburst model. I don’t know much about these. Can anyone share info about it? Action is good, neck and body are in great shape. I’ll play it a few times a week, 6-7 songs a night. He wants $500 with hard case. I have a DV52, but am not familiar with the Chinese models. Thanks!

Welcome aboard, Ray!

No real comments from me about this GAD version. It is the first generation of GAD (tell from the pickguard they used). I think that would date it between 2004 and 2010ish.

That guitar looks nice, but if it were me I'd go for a US-built model G-212 or G-312 (rosewood) instead. You won't have to pay much more.

If he'll get rid of it for 250-300 it'd be worth it, I think. Just my opinion, though.

I think GADs are the best of the Chinese-made Guilds, and $500 for that model with hardshell case seems like a great deal to me, especially since the action is good and there are no serious problems. That's about what I spent on my GAD D125-12, which is a surprisingly great 12-string.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

$500 is a fair price. Remember a hard case will cost over $100 which is not included in new Chinese Guilds. Mine sounds great. It is all solid wood with twin truss rods. One guitar shop told me it sounded as good as a Taylor in a blind test. It is newer than 2007 since my serial number is 33xx. Check the date on the neck block.

Welcome to LTG! If you are interested in the exact year when she was buil have a look at the neck heel inside. All GAD instruments were stamped with a 10 digit internal manufacturing number located in the soundhole, at the base of the heel block. This number embodies production information about the instrument. And the good thing is the manufacturing year and month are in that number!
So let's have a look at a simple example number 0711340067:
The first two digits of this number identify the production year. In this case, 07 would stand for 2007.
The second two digits identify the production month. In this case, 11 would stand for November.
The other six numbers are of no significance and are internal factory numbers.

Ralf
