Hello all,

I’ve recently bought a Starfire VI. Incredible bit of kit. It has a plaque on the headstock saying ‘Golden Throat 1930 - 1978’. Any ideas of who or what this refers to? Google hasn’t been very helpful.

Ta very much

Welcome to a great and knowledgeable guitar forum who freely share their research and information.
On a scale of 1--10 with 1 being least amount of knowledge and 10 the most, I am a 1.2.
Others will be along and we have several who rank near 10.

Welcome. Never heard of Golden Throat nor a Guild truss rod cover that had a date range nor one that used that font. The shape seems wrong either because a Guild TRC was trimmed or it was not a Guild TRC.

So if I had to guess, and that is all I am doing - guessing - I would say that a previous owner had a custom truss rod cover made and engraved to commemorate something that was important to them but is now obscure to us.

Since "golden throat" often refers to someone with an exceptional singing voice I'm going to say it was commissioned to honor a bandmate who died too young.

Golden Throat was an Electro Harmonix voice box in the 70’s. Perhaps the guitar owner was involved in its design or production?

Perhaps, but Electro-Harmonix as a company only goes back to 1968 so we need more of a story to explain "1930".

I was thinking born/died dates. Perhaps the trc was a family’s tribute to the owner? It is a mystery for sure.
