I am so over Google; they have the absolute worst customer service ever. Oh wait; I wouldn't know that because I never received any customer service from them.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a new home page?

I'm not sure why you need customer service from Google. I am not giving them any money so all I expect is tech help and I can usually find it. I probably don't understand how Google contributed you your recent fraud.

If you had Google as a home page for your browser and are going to change it...

I use a blank page as my hope page. That means I initiate things by clicking on a bookmark or some kind of search. In the past, my bookmarks toolbar got cluttered so I exported all my bookmarks, used a text editor to trim them and had a local HTML file with sites I visited often. I made that file my home page for a while.

I have gravitated towards Duck Duck Go as my default search engine and sometimes make it my default home page.

In general, though, I don't have my browser push information at me. When I open a browser it is because I want something specific and so a blank home page works fine since I will click on the site I want anyway.

Yeah, not sure how anyone is a customer of a global algorithm based mega marketing firm. Their business (and everyone else's on the net) is allowing you to use their search engine/home page/email service....and in return, they document everything you do and sell your information to advertisers, if not use it themselves. The FBI/CIA/NSA doesn't hold a candle to mass marketing/advertising when it comes to tracking your every move.

I use Adblock and ghostery apps....and 1/2 the damn internet doesn't even work for me because they require you to turn those apps off to use their site, which I won't. It's crazy how empty the internet actually looks when all the ads and trackers are blocked.

From a quick search, it seems the only direct contact for customer service is for subscribers (payed) of Gmail Suite for businesses.

Amazon is pretty terrible as well. I hate chatbots.

I always asked Amazon to call me. A person calls within 10 seconds, and has (so far) always solved my issue..

I love chat windows when trying to get help. It's also helpful that I can type faster than I can talk!! So communicating with them is super easy and I've always gotten the help I needed!! Love a help chat window!!

Same here. Amazon phone reps are very helpful, their automated online customer service, not so much. They've outgrown a lot of the options available to online resolutions. I received some damaged glass jar food items before, online it says all food items are the responsibility of the food vendor. Food vendor says this was a Amazon hub packaging error, Went back to Amazon, said call me, they did in minutes, replacement items were on my porch the next morning. Not bad. (y)

@dreadnut:

Not sure why you would need "customer service".

Just go to google.com on your preferred browser.

Click on the little "domino" logo in the upper right corner, choose "gmail" or "calendar", and log in.

OK, I got them back; I had to restore my laptop to an earlier date when they were still working.

Glad you solved that. Understand, however, that if restoring your laptop was the solution then it was probably not caused by anything Google did. When I "lose" things it is almost operator error because I had moved something I didn't want to move or hidden something and the command I used that I shouldn't have is almost always a Windows or web browser feature.

Tech can be frustrating and not knowing who or what to blame makes it worse.

System Restore is a very handy feature. I sometimes think fairies (the winged kind, not me) dance across my keyboard during the night. Honestly.....:rolleyes:

For me it's not the Fairies but the the body part that hits the laptop's touchpad when it shouldn't. I do take "laptop" literally and often have to accommodate both the computer and the cat...

Well, you can't move the cat. I think there's a law somewhere.

There have been many times that I couldn't do this or that because the cat was sitting on it, or I would have to move the cat. So I just wait until the cat moves, while asking myself why I am waiting on the cat.

But if the dog is in the way it's, "Move" or "Get down".

Why the difference?

It's quite the mystery.
