My '61 (I think) X-50 is one of the best guitars I've tried. Unusual, beautiful sound. Not a heavy instrument, but feels so solid, well constructed. This pic by our own NYWolf, who sold it to me several years ago:
I had larger frets installed. Nothing else needed. I thought at first that it was basically Guild's take on the non-cutaway ES-125 formula. Maybe it is, but it ends up rather different. 1/2 in shallower in the body for one thing. A bigger than expected acoustic voice, and this tasty Franz p/u is clearer, more defined than most P-90s. And yes, a wonderful neck. Pretty obvious on this one. The finish has been darkened, nearly played off. Very comfortable player.
