I was just given a guild guitar, and all my internet searches have come up with nothing. I even scoured the Guild lists of serial numbers and found nothing

It does not have a sticker of any kind in the sound hole. the only marking is on the headstock. It is stamped "DG100623"

Can anyone help me find the year, the tone woods, the value? Really anything about it.

1981 D40C. There’s one for sale on reverb for $1,100. That’s probably about the average for ones I’ve seen listed in the past

Top is solid spruce, back and sides are solid mahogany. Neck is mahogany as well. That’s a nice guitar

Welcome! I have one too, and I love it!

Supposedly (can anyone confirm?) this was the first dreadnaught guitar made with a cutaway.
Looking back thru models and serial numbers, I don’t know what year or serial number yours is, but looks like they made a D40C, D25C, D47CE and a DS48CE all about the same time beginning around 1980. The D47 and D48 both had the oval sound hole. The D25 had a very small cutaway not the serpentine like the others. This is from an LTG members photo.

YES, and the designer Rick Excellente joined here and posted a couple of times about ten years ago.

From Wiki's Guild page:
"Guild also successfully manufactured the first dreadnought acoustic guitar which incorporates a "cut-away" in the lower shoulder of the instrument, known as the Guild D40-C. In 1972, under Guild's new president Leon Tell, noteworthy guitarist/designer Richard "Rick" Excellente conceptualized and initiated the first dreadnought guitar with a "cut-away". The cut-away feature enables a player to have a more usable higher fret range. Upon the success of the Guild D-40C, other guitar manufactures followed suit. Today, Guild continues to manufacture the D-40C, and now, virtually every guitar manufacturer in the world incorporates this cut-away on their acoustic dreadnought guitars."

With a nice clear serial number like that, I figured that folks here would be able to identify it quickly. Enjoy!
