What do you guys make of this?
I'm a newbie, but shouldn't there be a serial on the back of the headstock?

Hello DasBeef,

A late '60s Guild without a serial number is possible, but it would be highly unusual. If it really is a CE-100D from 1968, I would think it probably has one, but it may not be very clear. Did the seller say there was no serial number on the back of the headstock? Is there one on the label? If yes, did the seller give you the serial number?

Without the answers to the above questions it's hard to say anything definitive about it.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

My T-100 from 1966 (Hoboken, NJ) has the serial numbers recorded twice on the guitar: an impressed stamped number on the rear of the headstock and again on the label, inside the guitar.

I enlarged the photo of the ("your") guitar greatly, and while I do not see a serial number on the headstock, I'm sure I can see the oval, tan paper label glued inside the guitar body. You can see this through the upper "f" hole. I can see part of the wreath pattern that is printed on the border of the oval paper.

So, contact the dealer and simply ask him what the serial number is. That label will have it, as well as the model of the guitar, written by hand on that label. He will know where to look.

OK, so once you get the serial number, you can find the date/year it was made, and generally confirm the authenticity of the guitar. Go to this site and download (via link) the PDF file that will allow you to date the guitar: http://www.guildguitars.com/index.php/support/dating/

I haven't asked the seller, but from the pictures on their website it doesn't look like the headstock is stamped. I was in the store the other day, but didn't get a chance to get a good look at the guitar. It's displayed up beside the roof and the shop was busy. I'll try to get a proper look the next time I go in.
