Thanks for allowing me to join. What year is this? Are these turners original? Don't know much about it. Bought it today. It's in really good shape. Has pickup that's been installed. Serial number 103820. Could it be a fake?

Everything I see looks legit. It's a '74, the tuners COULD be original (they were used on Guild models in that year, and may have been available as an upgrade on the D-35). If it's a good price and is structurally sound, buy it. If you already did, play it and enjoy!

Added: If you use your mirror to look on the braces flanking the sound hole on the underside of the top, one of them will likely be stamped with the date the top assembly was completed. I'd guess it will be sometime in the second quarter (Apr - June) of '74.

Welcome and stick around. Lots of great knowledge and insight here.

I believe those tuners to be original. I have the same ones on my '78 D-35. That one looks to be in pretty nice condition. The pickup is definitely an aftermarket decision... Appears to be of the JJB / K&K variety. Nothing fake about it. Enjoy!!

Do y'all think this is the original case? What is the tape on the brace?

I'm gonna guess that's not the original case. It would be Guild branded. Or it could have been purchased at the same time as the guitar, but that doesn't look like a 1974 case to me. The fabric reinforcement is just that, and is original to the guitar. Very common. Not a repair as far as I know.

Here is a thread on the Martin Guitar forum showing more such examples, yes, very common to use fabric to reinforce the X-bracing:

Looks real to me. I had a late 70s D-40 that had those tuners.

No one is going to bother trying to fake a Guild. No worries there. I would invest in a good fret level and crown. The rest of the setup goes along with this. Your D 35 will play a lot better.

I would venture you could get your money back plus shipping from 75% of the members here.
Would love to see some pictures of your D35 purchase.
