How so? really, im sincerly interested?

Seriously though since the question's still about DV6's you haven't even gone off topic.
Westerly DV series instruments used selected aged wood and construction techniques (bracing most likely) intended to create an instrument which had a "vintage" sound when new. Tacoma also produced DV6's but I can't recall seeing any specifics about what if any changes were made or special techniques were used in the construction.
Current DV6's are made in Mexico. I recall reading a reference about the finish being poly-urethane rather than nitrcellulose laquer. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that one). There are conflicting opinions about the ability of polyurethane to improve tone as it ages the way nitrocellulose will. The majority viewpoint is that "poly" is superior in durability but inferior in tonal quality. There is also some concern about the build control in the Mexican made guitars, especilaly when compared with a Westerly made instrument.
Here's a recent thread about one person's experience with a new DV6:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19166&p=205890&hilit=dv6#p205890
Granted one instrument should not be used as the standard of judgement for Mexican made instruments, but since you asked the question I was sure that thread would give a lot of insights. It's why we're really here, right? 8)

Guild porn rocks!

Can someone explain to me what I think I'm seeing? The inside of that soundhole looks like mahogany, not rosewood. Is this a rosewood laminate? I thought DVs were solid?

Hello Chazmo,

The photos at the beginning of this thread show a Westerly-made DV-6, which has a solid mahogany back. The more recent DV-6 has solid rosewood back & sides, which might be the reason you're confused.

Sincerely,

Thank you, Hans. That is exactly why I was confused. Was there a DV-4 during this timeframe, and was it also mahogany? Was it solid too, if so? Just curious.

Hello Chazmo,

There was a DV-4 but not exactly during the same time frame. It was introduced 4 years later than the DV-6. It had a solid mahogany back as well.
