I'm considering purchasing my girst guild, it's about time. Any insights into this one? Something looks funny about the headstock inlay, plus it has a Crack from bridge to end of boutique on the top? Any info would be much appreciated.

The lacquer separation around the inlay on the headstock is not unusual in Guilds this old.

Can't see the crack you mention, but if it runs from the bridge to the bottom of the lower bout ("boutique"), find out if it's been repaired or is still in need of repair. Properly fixed, it won't affect the sound, but the price should take into account the crack, repaired or not.

The GF series are fine guitars -- I have a GF30, GF50 and GF60 -- and if the price is right, I suspect you'll be happy.

Good luck, and welcome!

Thanks guys, I'm 43 and have owned alot of acoustics over my life but never a guild. And have always loved their sound ever since I saw Roger Hodgson live with one of his jumbo 12's.

It's in an auction so it's a gamble, but reputable seller

At such a low starting bid, I suspect you'll have competition. But the crack may work in your favor. Collectors won't bid high for guitars with repairs, or ones in need of repair. They like their guitars as close to pefect as possible.

I've landed some good deals on guitars that had suffered damage that was easilly fixed, or was mainly cosmetic.

Hi planeshift, welcome! That "crack" is probably at most just a center seam separation and may not even be a crack. It's a place where lacquer can separate as it shrinks with age, and is really only a "surface crack", a form of checking, basically.

This guitar has seen some dehydration, planshift1. At $300 the price would surely be right, but I'm not sure where you're shopping...

Anyway, the center seam crack could potentially indicate some braces loose or even damage to the bridge plate, but more likely it's not such a big issue. Have you bought used guitars before? In any case, good luck!

I've bought used guitars. But this is the one downfall of buying online without being able to play it..
