On the Artist Award headstock decoration, what does the pitcher/vase with a star shining on it supposed to symbolize ?

Not sure if that's what the original intention was, but it may have been something simple as Artist = Star and the pitcher /vase could be a Trophy Cup = Award.

Makes total sense to me, too. I like how the earlier examples of the AA iconography were all done by hand. It wasn't until the 1970s that it was standardized. For examples, see:

The dimensions of the Benedetto designed AA and JSA are different compared to the Guild designed models.
