I'm not much of a "Burst" guy - preferring instead the au naturale look, but that is one NICE looking guitar! Is it the lighting in those pictures or is that really more of a tobacco Burst as opposed to the more traditional red/yellow Sunbusrt ?
Westerly's bursts tended towards the dark and "tobacco" unless based on "Cherry", but I think the lighting's darkening up that one besides.
In '96 for example they offered "Tobacco", "Antique" (both brown based), and "Cherry" (the red/yellow you're thinking of)

Hello everyone it’s been a long time since I was on here with this thread about my J26 sunburst. So long in fact that I had forgotten when I asked similar questions on another forum years later but I have forgotten which one! (at the risk of oversharing I have some memory issues due to epilepsy). Anyway it seems there was quite a lot of interest in the guitar at the time as it’s a rare one and serial number 1.
I’ve finally decided I want to sell it as I rarely pick it up and it deserves to be enjoyed. It plays well but has got loads of dents and nicks and glaze cracking.
I took it to a highly respected luthier who said the glaze cracking was just a sign of age and the dents were superficial. But obviously would reduce value.

Photos now adeed.
Anyone with any idea of value?

Welcome back cfn1963. No idea of fair price as there are very few of these particular models around. I would say that your J-26 is perhaps most similar to a JF-4 of the 1990ish-era. You might want to look at those for an idea of value.

I hope when the time comes you list it here. Good luck with your choices.

I’ll try to work out how to put them on again
Post #11 shows 3 pictures of your 1995 JF-26. And Hans had explained the story behind here:

Mmm there’s only 7 posts on that thread as far as I can see. And the only link goes to a running club page. But… there is mention of a date stamp of December 1991 on the neck block of the JF26 and mine too has that too 👍

Wow, talk about a zombie thread! My original post was last replied to over six thousand days ago!

My son has had that guitar for years, and as far as I know never really applied himself to learning to play it beyond strumming Wonderwall. I have not seen that guitar in at least a decade.

At one time I had a collection of Guild acoustics, almost one of every model. At that time there was not a Chinese line of Guilds.

I don't know about today's values because prices have gone up so much for USA built Guilds, but relatively speaking I would go by this formula:

'70's D 25 JF26
------------ = ------
'70's D 55 70's F 50R

Jim

(PS - When I sold my running store the new owner changer ISP's. All of my old photos and stories subsequently disappeared. Moral - don't count on the Internet for long term storage of memories, use a hard drive back-up or print them out and save them In hard copy.)
