Newbie here.

Bought myself a '67 Starfire IV for a restoration (I think!) and it appears to be missing the headstock veneer.

I'm not too sure yet as the guitar is on its way to Australia.

Anyway do the headstock veneers for Guilds ever pop up for sale or am I out of luck? Would rather S/H or NOS than a repro.

Cheers.

Welcome to LTG, "triangle going sick" (my god, what does *that* mean)? :)

Can't help you directly.

Send a PM to "hansmoust" and perhaps he can steer you in the right direction for something like that. Beyond that, I hope someone else chimes in, but I'm not sure where you'd find a parts market for a Hoboken instrument except possibly a seller on eBay with one or a donor, parts instrument.

One other possibility might be Guild (Fender) customer service. It's an outside shot, but perhaps they'd be willing to fix you up (probably not a warrantee claim, though :)).

Best wishes.

You may be in luck. A sellet on ebayhas been selling NOS parts from the old Westerly, RI Guild plant the last few weeks on ebay. It is probably a 1990's type and you probably have to pay a bit but they are available.

By the way, what does S/H mean? I'll put that in the glossary, but I don't know what it refers to (I thought shipping and handling...)

Actually, you may be REALLY in luck in a way that may never happen again.
Those two on ebay are actually for a Guild DV-72 I think:

Sandy: They sold for only $65, did you get them?
Ralf

I did Ralf. They seem to be taking an inordinate amount of time to get here from the UK, but the seller told me that they have been sent. I'm going to keep one to replace the veneer on my money pit F212XL

The other one I'm going to send to our friend Down Under, and we're going to split the cost. Two for $75 including the shipping. Not too bad.

@Sandy: That's great! But actually with a bit of sanding down and some layers of fresh clear laquer that 12 string headstock veneer might look like new again. Almost as he did here in greater scale:

Well, so far that's the plan. Mike is going to try to fix the mother of toilet seat on the headstock first, but he didn't want to guarantee that it would work. I bought these new veneers because of that, and because our friend in Oz needs one. If I don't end up using mine, I'll offer it up here first, and throw it on the 'Bay if nobody here wants it. Either way, I'm so far in the hole on this guitar that another $100 or so doesn't make a terrible difference at this point. Might as well make it near perfect.

Yikes John, you should have spoken up! The spare that I have is a;ready earmarked for your fellow countryman Triangle Going Sick! If he decides he doesn't want it, or if Mike is able to fix my existing veneer well enough, it's all yours.

Yep. Fitting, don't you think?
Let's hope that veneer does fit. Ohhh...you mean...say, did I ever tell you why I named my very first steel string guitar "Stringeater"? :D
