A fun puzzle. A guy posted this on FB. No stamped serial number on the headstock or on the neck block. Truss rod cover on the headstock. Flat-back mahogany body in black. Guild brand on the interior strip that runs along the seam. No sticker at all and no pickguard.

Unless it is counterfeit...I am guessing a 2006 Tacoma D-40 as it is a black mahogany flat back without a serial number. Prove me wrong!

Could be a black D40 but I thinking more like a Black D25 flatback. One of the locations was doing those for a bit...

The D-25 in 2001 did not have a chesterfield but the D-30 did and both came in black. However, in 2001, both were arched and both had snakehead headstocks. The D-25 flatback made a comeback in 2003 with the paddle headstock, but not in black. There was a black D-40 in 2003, but serial numbers were stamped in the headstock in Corona.

The rosette will tell you! Well, and potentially the tuners as well. And look what the wood of the back and sides is...

That left example below would be a Corona D-40, and the right a GSR D-40 from Oxnard... Just as hints.

Haha, the pic above is neither of those rosettes (unless someone covered up the outermost ring when they removed the pickguard!)! And, it is not the same pattern as the Richie Havens model shown in the 2006 catalog. Hmmm, so maybe not a 2006 D-40 either.

Oh crap, I just looked again at a vido the guy posted. While the pic looks black, the video shows it is a deep translucent brown.

Anyone know the years without stamped serial numbers? That would narrow it down.

I think all the Coronas had serial numbers on the back of the headstock, E-Type. So, yeah... The move to Tacoma yielded guitars starting in 2005 (TIxxxxxxx serials). New Hartford started (production) in 2009 (NMxxxxxxx serials). Just FYI. I'm not voting on this one, although I think a shaded color like that probably came from Corona.
