Mr. Fender,
I'd like to thank you for your job offer, I would be delighted to accept, but with a few minor stipulations.
First of all, I'd like to hire all of the folks who worked in Westerly, Corona and Tacoma and are willing to work hard in marketing the brand as my assistants. They were good people, fabulous craftsmen and craftswomen and have been struggling since you let them go.
Secondly, as I have a real moral issue with selling anything that I don't believe 100% in myself, I'd like you to locate and or repair all tooling used at the Westerly plant. This will ensure, along with the input from the newly hired, and very enthusiastic and knowledgable former employees, a quality product, much like that built in Rhode Island a decade ago. In fact, if the R.I. facility is still available, I would require it's repurchase for nostalgic reasons. Any old world craftsman at the Connecticut facility who were willing to make the commute to Westerly to join us, they would be welcomed too.
Since "humidity" played a role in your selling of the Westerly facility, I'd like to see climate control installed at Westerly so that it might become a non-issue. I'm keenly aware that the humidity was far lower in Tacoma than it was in Westerly  , and it must be half the humidity in Connecticut than it was in Rhode Island   , so the humidity issue must be addressed.
I would also require that centerfold ads, done by the same folks that do the Geico Insurance commercials, be included in each issue of Vintage Guitar magazine......you might eeven have to get your own lizard. I would also require that a diligent effort be put into getting these guitars into the hands of performers that appear regularly on CMT and MTV. The only other marketing issue I would like to see addressed would be the conspicuous lack of visiblity at the largest guitar shows in the country. Fender must purchase a large trailer, keep it stocked with the newest line of acoustics, and travel the country.
Once you have these issues resolved, write me again and I'll consider helping you to make Guild the brand it once was....and can be again.
Sincerely,
West R Lee
