"Dancing With the Stars" - Aired Tues Nov 17.
Barry played some kind of smallish black Guild A/E.
Sorry, no video or further info, just reporting.
They played "You should be dancing."

Could it be a Peregrine, or perhaps a Songbird?

Not sure which, but thinking back to those days, did'nt he always play a similar Guild? One of the only things I liked about the disco Bee Gees.

It's a Barry Gibbs Guild
S-4CE BG
Bee Gees' Barry Gibb's signature acoustic/electric guitar. Features a solid carved Honduran mahogany body with a custom gloss finish, a solid spruce top, a mahogany neck, 25 5/8" scale, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, gold tuners and Fishman transducer and preamp. The Barry Gibb S-4CE is available in custom metallic blue and transparent crimson finishes only, personally selected by Gibb. Comes factory-equipped with long-lasting Guild L3 50 phosphor bronze strings.

In this unique acoustic/electric model, the solid Honduran mahogany body creates an acoustic chamber with added resonance not found in traditional ,guitars. This allowed Guild to build a small body for the S-4CE BG that has the sound of a big guitar without the inherent feedback problems that can be found on a loud stage.

Fender ran a Guild Prize Plan U.S. dealer promotion/contest in October 1997 for consumers to test-drive Guild acoustic/electrics. More than 400 dealers participated. Consumer winner Lloyd Schwartz flew to Las Vegas in November 1997 to see the Bee Gees perform at the MGM Grand at a pay-per-view concert that later aired on New Year's Eve 1997. The grand prize was the Barry Gibb Limited Edition Guild S4 prototype that was awarded to Schwartz backstage after the concert. Schwartz test drove the Guild guitars at Sam Ash in New York City.

I still have an older Guild catalog with the Barry Gibb Songbird in it ... His color choice was blue ... I still enjoy watching their " One NIght Only " concert that I taped years ago ... Barry played his songbird and Maurice alternated between keys and a black Guild F-4CE ... Excellent show , with all their old music , sounding just the way you remember it ,( which is not aways the case )... If you get a chance to see this , it's fantastic ...

Barry sent his songbird back to the factory in the late 90's when we introduced the s4cebg. i had it in my office for a while. we needed to match the blue paint...i took it over to the local auto supply store and they did a color match.
we also built him another just like it...thinner body ( the the older version ) and left out the lead weight in the bottom. he didn't care if it balanced well or not..he wanted it as light as possible. Apparently he has a back problem.
The guitar was in a strange tuning...i didn't make a note of what it was at the time.
At the same time he sent us his 'signature' and i had a silk-screen made of it for inking the rod covers...that probably got thrown away.
One more thing, back in the 80's we built a guitar for him and, unlike most guild owners, he actually sent in the warranty card.

He's a good songwriter ( i like the older stuff ) and i heard he's a real nice guy.

Great story. And I agree the early stuff is classic pop songwriting.

Hey workedinwesterly ,
Thanks , very interesting information ... And yes , those boys were / are excellent songwriters , with well over one thousand compositions ... I never cared much for the disco stuff , but even during that period , they wrote and recorded a lot of stuff that I liked ... That said though , there's nothing like the stuff they recorded in the sixties ... Barry did have back problems ... If you get a chance to watch that " One NIght Only " concert , you can see toward the end of the night , that he's having a tough time keeping the smile on his face ... I read that he used an open E tuning , and watching him play , that looks about right ...Barry & Robin are celebrating fifty years in the business this year and one hundred and ten million records sold , wow ... BTW , I love the bit about the warranty card , L O L ... Thanks again ....

I just thought of this: wonder where that warranty card is now?

So THAT'S where those things go. ;) :D :D

Sounds like we have another LTG trip in the works! Bring your gloves and maybe a stick to fight off the gulls.
We may have to add the Westerly landfill to our LTG meet when the kaman factory tour happens! :)
