There's an article on Guild basses from the 60s, part one of a two part series, in the December issue of Vintage Guitar magazine.

And on the pages before, in the Price Guide second is a photo of a 1966 Guild Thunderbird S-200 and the pricing of several Guild models:

1977 Guild Bluegrass F-40 (excellent condition, price low to high: $900-$1,100)
1999 Guild Bluesbird w/AAA maple top ($1,000-$1,350)
1978 Guild Custom F-412 12-string ($1,600-$1,900)
1967 Guild Manhattan X-175 sunburst ($1,600-$2,000)
1966 Guild Thunderbird S-200 w/single coils ($3,200-$4,000)

There's also an article on John Oates of Hall & Oates and his guitar collection, which includes a 1967 Guild F-20 he calls "A sweetheart of a small-box; the guitar I used on every track on Mississippi Mile."

Actually I believe it is part 2 of 2. Too bad it is not online. Thanks.

But Grot's thread was about Part 1. Thunderface posted Part 2.
I'm confused about this statement. The Part One article is in the December issue. Thunderface referenced the December issue. How can he be referring to Part Two?

Won't Part Two be in the January or a later issue?

I go to http://www.vintageguitar.com/current-issue/ which is the Current Issue.

I scroll down and it says under columns
The (Way) Back Beat
Of Starfires and Jet-Stars, Part Two: More Guild Basses of the ’60s
By Peter S. Kohman

Nowhere on that page does it actually say what the current issue is, but the photo of the cover suggests that the current issue is January 2013.

So when we put it all together it seems like part 1 was in Dec, part 2 was in Jan and the current (as of November 2012) issue on the web site is January 2013.

Yes that appears to be the January issue. I still don't understand why you thought that Thunderface was posting about that when he said December.

Thunder did a repeat post. When I looked for the article online I found the current issue info and thought that was what Thunder was talking about, but what I found clearly said part two. Turns out the "current issue" is now January. I focused on the part 1 and part 2 and not the cover date, so I probably caused all of the confusion

Isn't there a teeny "January 2013" under "Kay U.S. Tenor Banjo" bottom-left? Very hard to make it out.

Easy to forget about that little detail, so in compensation for the couple of times I've "CHAZ-tised" ( ) you for other reasons, "thumbs up!" for that!

It's the lesser degree of moderation. In extremis you may well be Fronobulated.
Woe unto them who suffer both degrees simultaneously, ask me how I know.
