I have not noticed price increases on used quality acoustic guitars.
Last one I sold not long ago, I had to tale a loss.
I have several nice Guild's that I want to let go of and
just break even from what I paid. (D50, D55, F50R, F512 burst...etc)
Not much interest

However, the price of the condo I rent in Florida
has doubled in last few years.
Pre-covid was $1800 a month, now it is $3600.
Same condo, same months!
To make matters worse, they also increased the price
of Tequila and beer!!!

Reduced demand, that's the ticket! Supply and demand rules. Have you noticed, prices of M-75's has been coming down, albeit slowly.

Can someone tell me why recently guitar prices have gone through the roof?
I guess I've seen guitar prices go up some, but at least what I'm looking at haven't gone through the roof. Some time ago there was a lot of talk about Martin pricing getting jacked up, but that's Martin. They got a whole different deal going than other guitar companies.

I can’t say when I noticed used prices jump but folks seem to think used should priced just under retail on everything . New 1499.99 most cases free shipping. Used 1299.99 plus shipping .

New car or truck 40,000 grand , years old used 37,000 high mileage. Cheap used cars trying to find one for my son . 1,800 , excessive milage worn out interior needs motor , transmission slips same car value in excellent shape 4,000 but priced 6-8 grand and yes also high mileage . 😑

The recent years' used vehicle prices were a direct result of a scarcity of new vehicles. Short supply creates artificial high demand resulting in high prices. Not at all unusual for those circumstances. Some folks were paying more than new retail for low mileage used because they had to have a vehicle and that's all that was available.

As long as we are talking cars, two years ago I went looking for a late model low mileage used pickup truck and came home with a brand new Ford Ranger FX4 instead. It was only a few thousand more than the used pickups on the lot, of which there weren't many to choose from.

I bought a new Guild D-20 a year and a half ago and I think they are selling for the same still. I believe the D-40s are the same as they were then as well, if my memory serves me. Regardless, if they have gone up it isn't enough to draw my attention. I'm not in the market for another guitar though and haven't been for a while, so I'm not looking around for guitars every day across a broader market.

All those people who were in lockdown and at home during the pandemic bought guitars so they could, "finally learn to play" with their extra spare time. Then after pandemic was less prevalent, they realized they don't like playing guitar and don't have the discipline for it, and now all those guitars are for sale. Prices still pretty high but the market is just kind of flooded with them. So nothing is moving.

Have you done any food shopping lately? The prices of everything are out of control.

No politics - the problem is inflation.
I agree that everything is spiraling up.

Last week a large pizza at Roundtable was $38...c'mon! And checking prices at a local BBQ place that offers a "Family Feast" that two years ago was $65... it is now $88... but if one of your meat choices is ribs, that is now $8 extra and salmon is $7 extra... so that the family feast of 2 years ago is $103 now instead of $65 !!!, for cryin' out loud !!!!

the price of gas affects everything. Diesel is 5 bucks a gallon in New York. Political or not, that is your answer. why are groceries so expensive? we are growing things in Idaho and Mexico, and driving them to NY State, instead of growing it in NY State...things coming from China...need fuel to get here. the cost of fuel has doubled, and done so more recently than covid. add to that supply and demand, and whatever else. another real problem is the Reverb platform, and the UPS/ Fed Ex platforms and fees (I will leave out USPS in case I need them!)

If u can make local cash deals, or are willing to drive (and pay for the fuel!), good deals are still out there. If you are window shopping online, prepare for sticker shock

Huge demand during the second half of the pandemic made guitar prices, especially vintage guitars, skyrocket, and prices haven't really come down since.

A lot of in demand vintage guitars have doubled in price compared to pre-pandemic.

I see a lot of guitars listed at high prices and they seem to go unsold. I suspect for sellers and buyers willing to accept counter offers the guitars sell. The imports occasionally go on sale. What surprised me is how Guild NS initially sold for reasonable prices with a case. Now the prices for many models are just the guitar.
