There are many here who use Mediums without any worry. I use Lights myself, but that is just personal pref.

I use 12s or 13s on my D-5o, 13s or 14s on my F-50 and 11s on my F-212.

I think you should use what makes you more confortable to play with, according to your playing style. If you like mediums, go for them, I don't see why you should use lights on a D-40, they usually are sturdy guitars.

Man I just have to walk the fence. D'Addario EJ26-3D custom lights. .052, .042, .032, .022, .015, .011. Thump that bass and bend those blue notes.

not sure if anyone uses guild strings anymore, if they even make them, or does it even matter? however, i have a '75 brochure which states the type of guild strings to use for different guitars.

It's D'Addario custom lights for my D55. I think that mediums give extra volume, but hey with a D55 who needs extra volume ?
