Yeah, one of our greatest songwriters. We saw S&G here a few years ago, it was an awesome concert :D They rocked the show open with "Hazy Shade of Winter."

To me, one of the most poignant of song lyrics ..............

A time it was, and what a time it was.

A time of innocence; a time of confidences.

Long ago it must be; I have a photograph.

Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you.

Bless you, Paul Simon.

Saw him in Manchester, UK, earlier this year.

Absolutely superb. Big band, African musicians, immaculately rehearsed. New stuff and crowd-pleasers.

When he played slow, acoustic stuff ("Peace Like A River", "Sound of Silence") you could have heard a pin drop.

You can call him Al!

Happy B-Day Paul!!!!! A 100 more!

One of my favorite tunes is "Late in the Evening" love this verse;

"Then I learned to play some lead guitar, I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a j
When I come back to the room, everybody just seemed to move
And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play

It was late in the evening, and I blew that room away"

It's not his birthday for another 364 days, but his genius spans the year as far as I'm concerned.

Whenever I think about the lyrics that I've "borrowed" over the years, the opening of Duncan always makes me smile:
Couple in the next room, bound to win a prize, they've been goin' at it all night long.

Close your eyes and picture that! 8)

Cheers,
Joe

Mr. Simon is truly a treasure. How about this one?

"Old friends, old friends sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blowin' through the grass
Falls on the round toes of the high shoes of the old friends

Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy"

Dave :D

One of the best ever for me. Simple as that. He seemed to really capture the mood & essence of the times in some of his songs, yet at the same time they still sound timeless & fresh. Amazing how good he was so young.

Amen to that !

And, what freaky prescience from a young man, regarding advancing age !!
