Howdy to all,

I have been lurking around for a time, and find this forum to be one of the most helpful and friendly ones I've seen. And there are a few not so neighborly. This post is my first, and in addition to saying hello, I'd like to ask a couple of questions.

I have a 1971 F212 that I've been playing for a few years, and find this guitar to be the nicest 12 I've ever played, and would even risk saying that these small bodied mahogany boxes are under rated. A few friends must think the same, I have a list of names pleading to buy it if I ever get nuts enough to sell. I would like to get a better hardshell case such as a TKL or something, but the body is slightly different size than most of the ones I've seen. The upper bout is about the same as my OM28V but the body is longer, and of course the headstock is longer. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with finding something that fits, maybe even a lead towards a factory case that's in decent shape.

Also, a friend has asked me to help him dispose of a F412XL that he cannot play any longer due to health issues. Can anyone comment on whether putting it on a "well-known auction site" would be the best way to attract a decent deal, or whether there might be a better approach. There is no local market for this sort of thing. Thanks for any help, and best Regards to all.

Hi, Neil. Welcome to LTG!

The old 212s are great guitars, aren't they? I enjoy my '66, also.

A case that fits your guitar exactly may be hard to find, but you should be able to get pretty close. I have recently noticed that Guild is re-issuing the F212XL in their new "standard" series. I can't find the exact dimensions, but hopefully it's the same as the old ones. This is good news because there'll have to be new cases available to fit these. Probably pricey, though.

And, lastly... are you sure your friend's guitar is a 412XL? I could be wrong (not unheard of, for sure) but I don't think there was a model such as this. The only "XL" I can recall is the 212XL. POst some pics here, and who knows? You might find a home for it without resorting to the bay or the list.

Welcome Neil.
You've certainly come to the right place for all things Guild.
You'll like it here so stay in tune, and enlightenment is sure to follow, no matter the category.

Dave- Although I have played my friend's F412, I never looked at the sticker. He gave me the model number over the phone and I ( or he ) made a mistake. I'll have to take a closer look. Neil
