Thanks for the welcome and all the comments.

@Br1ck , do you charge by the hour? I may put you on a retainer...

Here's the thing; yes, this could well be a version of 'retail therapy' and there's no denying that a new musical acquisition provides a buzz. Is this healthy? Possibly not but it's preferable to other vices in that at least it doesn't have a detrimental effect physically. I don't drink, smoke or partake of illegal substances. One of my closest friends, also a guitarist, died not so long ago and his wife often says to me that she wished he'd bought the J-200 he'd always fancied. This resonated with me; we never know how long we've got and I don't want to be about to sputter out thinking "I wish I'd bought that (whatever)..."

Had each of my Guild purchases not been ridiculously good deals, I wouldn't have bought them; maybe that means I'm addicted to 'an opportunity too good to miss' as much as acquiring guitars. I'm sure I can spin some attempted justification for my actions and these can be interpreted one way or another depending upon one's perspective. Ultimately, if I decided to get rid of them, I'd either break even or profit; if I did lose a bit, it wouldn't be much. However, like it says on the box, they're 'made to be played' and that's my intention for them.

Who knew there was so much more on 'Let's Talk Guild' than talking about Guilds?!

Someone has suggested that, in terms of collecting whatever, that it's not all about addiction. They relayed that they had a friend who became sort of obsessed about buying run of the mill underwear -- paricularly the ordinary white t shirt kind of thing you'd wear under a dress shirt. He said that he was with this friend one day when the friend got excited about buying a package of tee shirts on a shopping trip. He asked his friend why he needed more t-shirts when he had a closet full at home. His friends response was, "yeah, I've got a lot of t-shirts, but I don't have THOSE t-shirts. It was as much of an OCD kind of issue as it was an addictive thing, though I'm sure dopamine was certainly at play here as well.

Welcome and congratulations. A player needs to buys lots of acoustics to determine which body styles match one's styles of play, which nut size, neck shape, scale length, etc are the best fit. You have to live with various guitars for a while to get it. Figuring all that out over the years has added immeasurably to my proficiency and enjoyment playing. There is a difference between collecting tools and collecting passive things.

All to say, I take exception to all this talk about dopamine. If you can legitimately afford it, do it. I am here in part to enable and encourage, and proud of it.

Awesome, real good looking guitars there, but can’t help but think now you need a Guild with a Chesterfield on the headstock, or maybe even a rosewood dread. Might have to go vintage though ;)

Fortunately, as much as I love the sound of a D-55, it is out of my budget!

Or something with an arched back, or maple, or...both.

Yeah, that's been my M.O., too.

Corona JF30-12: Excellent condition. Craigslist seller was asking $780. I gave him $800, lol. (This was many years ago.)
New Hartford F-50R. Excellent condition. $1,600. I noticed this reverb seller had reduced the price two or three times in just a couple weeks. I figured he was hot to sell. So I put in an offer just a couple hundred less than his latest offering. He took it. **Bonus** This gorgeous guitar came with freaking emeralds on the bridge pins and tuning posts! 🤯
Oxnard F-512: $1,400! Well, it was a real risky purchase. It was listed as "for parts or not working." But as it turns out, it only had a couple small gouges on the top sides of the lower bout -- obviously knocked off a stand. Otherwise it was brand new. I had a luthier fix the gouges -- and had a new F512!
New Hartford F-212XL: Mint condition. $1,450. Not a super great deal, but good enough.
GAD D125-12: Excellent condition. $450. Even though Chinese-made, this is a ridiculous price for a surprisingly great sounding all-solid-mahogany 12-string. Of course, these all came with hardshell Guild cases that must cost at least $100.

So yeah, I just love a good deal. I've pretty much quelled my GAS since I've got much of everything I've wanted. And they're all an absolute joy to play!

Hey! I used to collect t-shirts with company logos! Mementos of my career. :)
