Hi all, new guy here. So I’m getting a vintage Guild, don’t have it yet. A shop I trust is rehabbing it for me. It’s a D40, 1967. My question is that while doing some research online, I see some listed as 67 with just the Guild name on the headstock. Others have the name, and then that crown-looking thing. Not sure what it’s called. Does anyone know what’s the difference? Thanks.

Thanks! Can’t wait to get my hands on this one. It’s a bit of a project, getting a neck reset and some other more minor work. Had a G37 a while back. Traded it in some ill-advised plan. It’s always been the one that got away. D40 isn’t exactly the same, but I’ve remained a huge Guild fan.

Hello 2ndguild,

Welcome! The name of the ornament under the peaked Guild logo is called the 'Chesterfield' inlay. It was introduced on the D-40 (and the D-50 as well) towards the end of the year 1967, so you will find D-40s from 1967 with and without that feature.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
