Personally, I'd prefer the strap button pretty much where Joe put his, a la Taylor.
I've found that spot to be the best for a secure feeling when I'm counting on the strap to do its job and not pitch my guitar to the floor, thereby creating a problem much worse than where to put your strap button. :!:

If you have a nice leather strap, it wraps itself nicely around and caresses the heel. Ooops, getting off track here!

Joe
I was gonna compliment Joe on that placement the first time I saw that pic, 'cause yes, it's the best blend of functionality and durability. It's where I was gonna put mine, but like Paddlefoot, I virtually always play sitting down so I never installed it. Never could understand how people could play with something tied up at the nut, it just got in my way when I tried it!

I wear a strap even when sitting. Learned the hard way many years ago that guitars fall off laps, too.
Good idea. Guitar safety first! One of the worst sounds you'll ever hear is a guitar hitting the floor!
I have a tendency to do the same, and I have a great leather strap that I've had for almost 25 years that feels like...part of me! It's well broken-in, like your old baseball glove was.

Now I definitely won't bother to have the heel strap pin installed since mine increased nearly 300% in less than a week. Since we all are good Guild admirers and since mine is at least 4 years older, I'd be willing to let it go for a mere 5 times what I paid for it (+ shipping and insurance), remember this is a special LTG offer, don't delay next week it will be double that. WOOPS I pinched myself, hanging around the Gibson forum too much

Well, now that that's settled, check out this little gizmo from Martin. So far I've resisted drilling holes im my F20, everything else either came with a strap button or I installed one straight away. I use one of these Martin Strap buttons ?? on my F20.

That is a neat trick, it would take an upstart company to think of that :D
They are also inexpensive.
Thanks

See thread on D25 on the Bay in Members Cove>ebay etc. It came in today, nice loud voice and I will be having a heel pin installed. Played it with a piece of string around the headstock to the strap and much prefer a strap to the heel, probably because that is what I am used to. So the saga comes to an end, and after all it is no "frickin Stradivarius".

Me too - means the guitar is in the same place sitting or standing and leaves the hands freer as well. I do always have to make sure the base isn't twisted though as it has a tendency to pop off the base pin which is actually a lead jack.

Won't use a sledge for the heel pin, I use a sledge for the bridge pins, that corrects any bulging top phenomenon quickly.
Speaking of bridge pins VEER VEER VEER, on one of the other forums (probably AGF) there was a thread on an Ebay or Craigslist guitar where someone had substituted small wood screws for bridge pins. One member nailed it when he in effect said that knowing this forum, we will be debating how Philipps head or straight slot, round head or flat, brass plate or nickel would affect the tone
