Hello everyone.

I'm a long-time fan of Guild guitars. I owned a GAD 30 ATB and M120. Both were sold years ago. I now have a 2021 M20 and 2022 D-55E. A recent purchase, the D-55 is going to the luthier today for a setup. It plays well, but the action is a bit high.

I'm considering a pickup for the M20. My luthier recommended a K&K Pure Mini. I have a Vintage Jack, which I may with a new pickup. I'd rather not drill a hole in the guitar to accommodate a pickup jack. I have a Fishman Blackstack sound hole pickup. I used it in the GAD 30 with the Vintage Jack. Unfortunately, I think it is too big for the M20 sound hole.

I look forward to visiting forum.

Be well.

MJ

Hey MJ, welcome to LTG! and congrats on your recently purchased D55! Good choice! Did you buy new or used? A good setup is also a good idea for most any new purchase. Post pics when you get 'em!

I bought my D55E new on Reverb—Huber Breese Music, Inc. in Fraser, Michigan. I got a great deal. Outstanding music store. Wonderful communication and service. I’ll post better photos later.

Beautiful guitars--congratulations and welcome! Others will have to comment on an appropriate sound hole pickup for the M20. I do understand the desire not to drill.

I generally don't like K&Ks, but on a smaller mahogany guitar, they might work fine. Why are they so popular? My theory is that every guitar shop and tech have them to sell. Keep in mind they need a lot of EQ, so a good pre is in order. On a dread, my world, they have way too much bass.

I have an LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI for pre amp and EQ. I also have TC Electronic BodyRes pedal.

You will need to keep the gain on the PADI really low with a K&K. I thought a regular Boss GE-7 worked better. I now have a Venue, and am very happy with it. This is with an OM.

Welcome!

Welcome MJ! This is a great place to join, visit frequently and enjoy with all of the knowledge here about Guild guitars and all other subjects.
Your D55 certainly is quite a looker and your M20 is my favorite size these days. I hope to see your posts frequently and by all means
"Have Fun".
