I stopped by a pawn shop (Easy Pawn - just south of Pinemont) on N. Shepherd (southbound side) in Houston yesterday. I've got a bit of a habit in that when I have a few spare minutes and I'm on the road I stop by pawn shops and check out their guitars and amps to see if there's anything good hanging about. I've found some pretty good deals that way. It's also a good way to get exposed to some decent guitars that aren't hanging brand new in the racks in local retail guitar shops.

Anyways....

I stopped by this pawn shop. As I was perusing their gear I saw a Guild DV4 laying on a shelf near the floor. I remember stopping in there and seeing it a few months before that. I was surprised it wasn't in the guitar hangers along with the rest of the guitars.

When I picked it up I noticed it had taken a pretty good whack somewhere along the way. Directly above the end pin the top was separated from the side and there was a crack that ran from there toward the bridge. I don't remember seeing that damage the first time I had seen the guitar, so whatever had happened to the guitar had happened at the pawn shop for sure.

The separation wasn't bowed up badly. You couldn't look into the body of the guitar or anything. The crack was about four inches long. I'm no luthier, but I think it could be repaired without too much fuss.

I played it for a bit. It was missing a bridge pin (e) and the e string. Even busted up it sounds better than the other acoustics (basic pawn shop starter kit). The employees at the store said that it had "fallen off a shelf". I asked "was it a stupid customer trick?"

Yep.

They want $250 for it.

I already have a GAD-50 and a GAD-G212 that I'm very happy with. Aside from that there's no way on earth I could justify it to SWMBO. In short order she'd be wearing my testes for ear rings and be bragging about the eunuch washing dishes at the house.

However, I figured there might be another Houstonian that frequents LTG that might be interested. $250 for an undamaged DV4 is a great deal. Given the damage that it has it stills like an OK deal - especially if you're looking for a good-sounding beater and aren't interested in having the repair work done.

Heck, it might even be a good deal for an amateur luthier.

I dunno.

I just figured someone might be interested.

EDIT: I did some web searching and found that they used to be made in the USA. This is not a USA-made guitar. The label inside clearly says it's made in Mexico.
