I was once satisfied with 1 acoustic 6-string, 1 acoustic 12-string and one electric guitar and one amplifier. Then the internet and eBay came along and I have guitars and amps in 3 storage units now (one I use as a rehearsal space). Damn that internet !!!!

Y'fergot 'bout the rotators, but that's gettin' into string theory which I'm kind-a oxidized on.

I think that's @Guildedagain 's container. The flat-tops're in the back. Better protection.

Adorshki, Where did this cringe-worthy photo come from?!!!

I'm sort of an outlier when this subject comes up. It seems like more than three for me. There is nothing noble about that, having too much of anything and then having to try and decide causes me a lot of stress and it isn't just guitars. I'm not a person who likes to spend time weighing the options. But I have a big guitar, a little guitar and a hollowbody electric guitar. That's about all the decision making I can handle. That's not to say I don't buy guitars, it is just that when I do I have to take one that I already have along with me that isn't coming back if I buy something else.

No idea how many is too many. Every time I buy a new guitar I tell myself that I am good and I don’t need another. Then I always seem to find one it don’t have, and want, and I end up adding another guitar. I thought moving to NYC and having a smaller place would dampen my guitar buying. I have not even moved into my new place and I have purchase three guitars while living in temporary housing!

Me too. I've owned a lot of guitars, but now one acoustic and one electric. I also have had the "one in, one out" process for the last few decades. Retirement looming, I've had a great and enjoyable career teaching, but it is not a high paying one. Spouse part time only since we had kids, who are now both married and out of the house. I certainly wouldn't trade the relatively relaxing lifestyle I've had for more guitars. Cripes, I'm driving an 2011 Outback with 130K on it, I'll need cash to replace that!

And of course, I live vicariously through all of my fellow LTGers!

I guess "too many" occurs when the amount of guitars creates an articulable problem. But then, any problem caused by 'too many guitars' is 'a good problem to have'. So, no. There can't be too many.

Walrus, I wish I had the "one in, one out" ability and I know guitarists that do, but I never did. And, at some point soon, I have to do a retirement move and don't plan on taking all my guitars and amps with me.

Again, I curse the internet and eBay for making it so easy to let GAS get out of control.

I've been pondering a similar thing. My latest concept is to buy a smaller house up at a lake for my wife and her boat that I can visit once in a while. That way I don't have to sell or move all my gear and also play as loud as I want when I want.
