I just bought a Guild case from Musiciansfriend.com for my '61 X-175 so that the original case stays in good shape. The case arrived today, and while the invoice lists the case as that for the X-700 it is a VERY tight fit! How tightly should this guitar fit in the case initially?

It shouldn't slop around in the case but you shouldn't have to wrestle it in or out either. Snug is OK but if you're stressing the guitar or pushing down on the bridge it's too tight.

I notice you have an X500 - does the X175 fit in that case? Does the 500 fit in the new case you just bought? They should be pretty much the same. I got a jumbo acoustic-size case for my '61 X175 and its a comfortable fit.

The case I got is supposed to be the Deluxe case for J, JF, Jumbo, and X-700 Guild Guitars, but while my 175 can be fit in very snugly, I tried to get my 500 into the case and would not feel comfortable leaving it in as all of the padding in spots gets fully compressed to the shell. My thought is that they sent me the case for the Guild D, DV, and DCE series, but then my D40 doesn't fit properly either as the the waist of the case is too narrow.
