Just thinking about Darryl's comment in the "black and gold Bluesbird" thread in the eBay section.

He said "I'd say that "rare" can mean 1) few made, or 2) few available. The D64 is rare because so few come up for sale."

I agree with this, D64's are very hard to find. My question is what is a "few made"? Only 193 D64's were made, would this also count as "few made"? I always thought that wasn't that many, but perhaps everyone defines it differently. Obviously a "one-off" goes in this category, and (let's say) a Starfire II doesn't.

Just wondering aloud...

Ahhh, thanks, Kurt! The opening post starts off with "under 400" as a number defining the word "few", which was what I was thinking about. But re-reading that thread was interesting!

A rare guitar is one that is pink inside when you cut it open.

Similar to the question concerning what "near mint" means. Well....this:

Any item advertised on ebay is rare, vintage and collectable, even if it's new.
Yep, if it's on the internet, it must be worth whatever some sucker'll pay for it.

I guess I was kinda under the mistaken impression that when I joined this forum I would meet some of the other people (19 possible) who owned a Guild D65S. That hasn't happened. At least not yet.....

Those other 19 guys're all too old to know about the internet.

I found this place when I was googling for info on my F65ce and found Westerly Guild Guitars site, which had a link to here, and then I stumbled across one of Marcellis' posts about how much he loved his F65ce. Felt like I'd found a long-lost brother.
Sooooo...out of all the F65ce's that were made and sold (highest s/n Fender had a record of was AF651258 when I asked 'em), I think there's almost a dozen owners here.
That's about 1 out of 100.
By those odds D65s is kind of over-repesented here. :p
But if ya wanna have that "member of a group" thing goin', get an F65ce.

rare can sometimes be when you see a guitar and your first reaction is "i've never seen one of those before"

See if you can find another. 8)

Somehow the composition of that photo reminds me of Manet's "Olympia" but I'm sure that was completely unintentional on your part, right?
Right?

Actually, after de Goya's La maja desnuda. I wanted the proper angle for the pickguard to be in the upright position.
Olympia would put it upside down.

If you look at many of my other guitar pics, you'll see the same pose.

Good eye,
