My new to me 2009? Tacoma D40 BG Jubilee. Just wow. I bought it off reverb and I was super hesitant buying a guitar unplayed but I lucked out and haven’t been able to put it down.
I’ve been playing (abusing) a Martin USA Custom X Series for the past 13 years or so. It was nice. It also has a red spruce top but the body is laminate and the built in fishman is an atrocity of bad tones.
So now I have this D40! The only mics I have are hypercardiod so playing it mic up and jumping around like a fool don’t mix so I HAD to get a pickup for it… my preliminary research indicated LR Braggs M1 was suitable but after doing some deeper research I gravitated towards the Mojotone NC-2 single coil with internal mic blend. Wow. When I got it hooked up I was like sheeeeeet, that sounds just like my ghee-tah only with way too much bass so I slammed a 6db/Oct HPF rolled up to 200htz, lovely. Then I realized I didn’t have the mic blended… turned it up and I’m next level now.
I should add for anyone who crosses this post doing deep research on Mojotone NC-2 in a Guild D-40 (or any box really) it is a single coil pickup and it does hum but it’s real and it’s raw and tone like that comes at a cost but don’t let it dissuade you.
