My new to me 2009? Tacoma D40 BG Jubilee. Just wow. I bought it off reverb and I was super hesitant buying a guitar unplayed but I lucked out and haven’t been able to put it down.

I’ve been playing (abusing) a Martin USA Custom X Series for the past 13 years or so. It was nice. It also has a red spruce top but the body is laminate and the built in fishman is an atrocity of bad tones.

So now I have this D40! The only mics I have are hypercardiod so playing it mic up and jumping around like a fool don’t mix so I HAD to get a pickup for it… my preliminary research indicated LR Braggs M1 was suitable but after doing some deeper research I gravitated towards the Mojotone NC-2 single coil with internal mic blend. Wow. When I got it hooked up I was like sheeeeeet, that sounds just like my ghee-tah only with way too much bass so I slammed a 6db/Oct HPF rolled up to 200htz, lovely. Then I realized I didn’t have the mic blended… turned it up and I’m next level now.

I should add for anyone who crosses this post doing deep research on Mojotone NC-2 in a Guild D-40 (or any box really) it is a single coil pickup and it does hum but it’s real and it’s raw and tone like that comes at a cost but don’t let it dissuade you.

I LOVE the bear claw figuring on that Adirondack spruce top, Karlo. Thanks for sharing your pictures. I believe we were looking at this guitar on our site recently and I'm happy you got it.

And.... WELCOME to LTG! That's the way to make an entrance. Enjoy that beastie!

Bear claw figuring… I wonder if that’s the source of the magic tones that come out of it?

Ever since I saw Alice In Chains unplugged I’ve always wanted a Guild. It only took me 27 years!

Congrats! It looks awesome!
Did you have to chase the bear out of your back yard when it was done?

Yeah I thought it was distinct. I felt compelled to buy it, it was a bizarre sensation.

In 30 or 40 years it’ll have some serious play wear and hopefully some extensive checking. It will look good next to me in my casket!

If that's the goal, let's shoot for 40!

Hmmm, I thought this was a 2009 per the reverb listing but the serial number TK009xxx would indicate it was crafted in 2007. Is that correct?

Per the Dating Your Guild doc that seems correct!

Lol, I’ve been slamming on this for over a week now and never even bothered to look inside. I didn’t even read the label when I put the pick up in. I thought it was made in Connecticut!

It wouldn’t matter anyways - it’s legitimacy is in its sound.

MP3 sorry!!!!

There is a 6db HPF rolled up to 200hz and a 250hz 3db bump on my input EQ.

Lol that bump probably ain’t necessary and I’d normally put a high shelf on it around 4.7khz using a bandaxall type slope for production purposes but for this to just highlight the quality of the pickup and guitar combo I’m excluded the hi shelf.

You can hear the single coil hiss at the beginning of the file for those on the fence about if this pickups noise floor is acceptable or not. For me- acceptable.
